The point where most business funding applications die is not the credit check. It is the moment someone asks you to email six months of bank statements.
You know the sequence. You call about funding, the conversation goes well, and then a list arrives. Six months of statements, an application to print and sign, maybe a void cheque. You mean to do it that evening. Then a supplier calls, payroll needs running, and the file sits in your downloads folder until the reason you needed the money has passed.
We have changed how that works. You can now apply for a merchant cash advance online, start to finish, in under five minutes. Nothing to print, nothing to scan, and no statements to dig out.
Why funding applications stall
For most of this industry, applying for business funding still looks the way it looked fifteen years ago. A PDF application form. A request for documents. An email thread that only moves during business hours, with someone on the other end who opens it when they get in.
None of that is anyone's fault exactly. It is simply how broker paperwork has always worked. But it means the file that could have been funded on Tuesday gets funded three weeks later, or never gets funded at all.
In our experience, the applications that go quiet do not go quiet at the credit decision. They go quiet at the document request. Business owners are not disorganised. They are busy, and hunting down six months of statements is a genuinely tedious job that gets pushed to later. Later does not always arrive.
What applying looks like now
Four questions to see if you qualify
Your province, your average monthly sales, how long you have been trading, and whether you have a business bank account. That is the entire first screen. No personal details at that stage, no credit check, no obligation. If the answer is no, you find that out in thirty seconds rather than in a week.
The application itself, on your phone
Your contact details, your business details, and what the funds are for. We confirm your email with a six digit code, and you sign with your finger. Nothing to print, nothing to upload.
Submitted within minutes
Your signed application goes to the lender minutes after you finish it, at any hour of any day. An application completed at 9pm on a Saturday is with the lender on Saturday evening. Most brokers' applications are a PDF that waits in an inbox until Monday morning. Ours does not have an inbox.

No bank statements
Instead of sending statements, you connect your business bank account to the lender, read-only. It takes about two minutes.
What read-only actually means
The lender can see your deposit history, which is how they verify your revenue. They cannot move money, they cannot take payments, and they cannot see your banking password.
If anything it is safer than emailing PDF statements, which then live in somebody's inbox indefinitely.
Two honest exceptions. If part of your trading history sits in an account you have since closed, connect what you can and we will cover the rest with statements. And if you would rather not connect an account at all, call us and we will work the file another way. The point is to remove an obstacle, not to swap it for a different one.

What happens after you apply
The lender emails you to connect your banking. A decision usually follows within 24 hours of them receiving it. If you are approved and you accept the offer, funding is typically 24 to 72 hours after that.
One thing worth being precise about. Canada Business Loan Experts is a broker, not a lender. The lender makes the decision. What is automated here is the submission, not the approval. Nobody can promise you an answer on the page, and anyone who does is worth a second look.
When a person takes over
The fast lane is not right for every file, and saying so is the reason to believe the rest of this.
An advance over $250,000, an unusual industry, a previous advance you were not able to repay, or a file that needs its story told properly: none of those are submitted automatically. They come to Stuart, who works them personally across our network of 30+ lenders.
You do not have to work out which one you are. The application sorts that itself, and either way you hear back.
Speed where speed fits, and judgement where it does not.
What to have handy before you start
- Your legal business name, as registered
- Your CRA Business Number
- Your business address
- Your date of birth, and roughly when you took ownership
- A rough monthly sales figure
Your date of birth is used to verify your identity. It does not trigger a credit check, and there are no documents to upload.
Before you apply, two things worth reading
If you are weighing an offer you have already been given elsewhere, our guide to merchant cash advances in Canada covers how to work out the true cost of an advance and the red flags that mark a predatory offer. Worth ten minutes before you sign anything, with us or with anyone else.
If you would rather see the numbers first, the merchant cash advance calculator will show you what an advance costs and what the daily repayment looks like against your sales.
